A concept from Yin and Yang
Feng Shui according to “wind and water” has its origins in China. The way in which the interior of a house is arranged has notable impacts on the behavior of the inhabitants who compose it and integrates different concepts to do so. Yin and Yang depending on the moon and the sun must be fully integrated into the interior decoration of a house:
- Yin: represents more the dark part;
- Yang: describes the luminous part.
Five elements also represent the first material manifestations of natures represented by wood, fire, earth, metal as well as water. The other eight directions correspond to the different cardinal points and thus define eight kinds of "ch'i".

In Feng Shui, it is essential to respect the different directions of traffic. If the living room faces North, it will be advisable to choose the red and brown color. In order to energize the ch'i.
If the living room is oriented towards the North-East, increase the Yin surfaces by using deep red in particular. On the other hand, if the exhibition is rather oriented towards the North-West, the shades of yellow and browns will highlight the energy.

If your living room also serves as a bedroom, it can also be arranged in the Feng Shui style with ideal North, North-West or West orientations. The tones should remain soft and rather relaxing at the same time. Your bed or sofa bed must be placed at least 20 cm from the floor. And the space must be spacious enough to allow free circulation.
The Feng Shui bedroom will also need to be tidy in a certain way with for example the clothes located in the wardrobe and not outside. The lights should be soft and pleasant.
Feng Shui and sofa: mistakes to avoid
In Feng Shui, promiscuity with certain objects and the sofa should be avoided as much as possible:
- Green plants: sticking plants to the sofa is not recommended because they retransmit Yang;
- The mirror: installing a mirror is also not recommended as it reflects negative images. It is therefore necessary to space the sofa from it as much as possible.
- Beams: they are also not recommended in Feng Shui decoration. But many old homes have them, so it is necessary to increase the space between the sofa and one or more beams as much as possible.
